Senator De Lima Will Get Arrested Anytime Soon!

Senator Leila De Lima announced that she is expecting a warrant of arrest anytime soon. The former Department of Justice Secretary claimed she was informed by a “reliable source” that the DOJ is reportedly trying to speed up the process of filing cases against her.

De Lima served as the country’s Justice Secretary from  2010-2015 under former president Benigno Aquino III’s administration.

Last year, the Duterte administration resolved to file several cases related to drug trafficking against the Senator. The consolidated drug-trafficking charges were filed against the senator following revelations by the former drug lord, Kerwin Espinosa. Espinosa claims that De Lima received drug money from him to help fund her senatorial bid.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre revealed that the results of the cases filed against De Lima will be out soon.

De Lima claims that the DOJ has supposedly ignored her pending petitions concerning the cases against her.

“So the case is submitted for reso without my counter affidavit kasi kinukwestyon ko talaga yung jurisdiction…Dapat idiretso ho nila yan sa Ombudsman and the Ombudsman will do its own prelim investigation,” the Senator said.

De Lima apparently requested for an Ombibus motion to bring the case to the Ombudsman. She hoped that the DOJ would not be allowed to handle the cases against her.

Watch her press conference:

Senator Leila de Lima said on Monday, February 13, that she is preparing for the “worst,” amid an impending release of an arrest warrant against her. De Lima said it has always been the goal of President Rodrigo Duterte to put her in jail. She also cited Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II’s repeated public pronouncements about her likely arrest.
